Dear Friends,
The brisk sunshine we are enjoying this afternoon in the Twin Cities belies the threatening forecast, which predicts nearly a foot of snow and 40+ mph winds tomorrow evening and Sunday. Due to these anticipated weather conditions, the Stainer Crucifixion concert has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, which is also Palm Sunday. The Cathedral Choir and Schola have been preparing for this special event, and both the parish and foundation want to host this concert when it is safe to attend.
Here are the salient details:
WHO: A free performance by the Cathedral Choir and Schola, with support from these special musical talents: Dr. Chris Ganza, Director of Sacred Music, is conducting the choir and accompanying on the organ. Nick Chalmers, tenor, and Andrew Kane, baritone, will be guest soloists.
WHAT: Sir John Stainer’s The Crucifixion, a 19th-century oratorio
WHEN: 2 p.m., Sunday, March 29 (also Palm Sunday)
WHERE: The Cathedral of Saint Paul/National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, 239 Selby Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55102
WHY: The Crucifixion delivers a rich musical meditation perfect for Lent, and it includes the cherished and familiar refrain, “God So Loved the World.”
There will be a collection for freewill donations at the Stainer concert to benefit organ maintenance. We hope you take advantage of this fine musical event.
With gratitude,
Cathedral Heritage Foundation Board of Curators
