Dear Friends of the Cathedral Heritage Foundation,
As part of its core mission, the Cathedral Heritage Foundation promotes the Cathedral as a center for educational, cultural, and artistic activities in the Twin Cities community. In furtherance of that mission, on October 12, 2012, we welcomed Dr. Robert Fisch to the Cathedral. Dr. Fisch—a Holocaust survivor, participant in the Hungarian rebellion against communism, distinguished pediatrician at the University of Minnesota, artist, and author—shared his inspiring slideshow, “A Lesson of Love.” The presentation highlights the six principles that have guided his remarkable life.
His visit was made possible by Dr. Frank Indihar and Anita Pampusch, Ph.D., longtime friends and generous supporters of CHF. With his wife, Karen, Dr. Fisch also supported many Twin Cities arts organizations. He was known for his wit and humor, delivered in his distinctive Hungarian accent. Dr. Fisch passed away at 97 and is buried in his beloved Budapest.
Click the video image below to view an excerpt of Dr. Fisch’s art and message. His powerful, faith-filled perspective—shaped by his experiences as a survivor and refugee—remains deeply relevant today.
Dr. Fisch’s words remind us that the Cathedral—built by immigrants and welcoming to all—remains a refuge in times of crisis. As Archbishop John Ireland said, “There shall be no one who, entering the Cathedral, is not able to say—it is mine.”
With gratitude,
Mary E. Schaffner, CHF Board Chair,
and the Cathedral Heritage Foundation Board of Curators
