Virtuoso organist and Minnesota native to perform free concert Thursday, September 10, at the Cathedral of Saint Paul

Duluth native, Yale graduate and virtuoso concert organist Samuel Backman will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, 239 Selby Avenue, Saint Paul. The concert is part of the Cathedral’s Centennial—2015 celebration. Backman elected to perform an all-French music program to fill the acoustics of the Beaux Arts-styled Cathedral. He will perform selections from composers Gigout, Guilmant, Alain and Duruflé. Adding still more interest for the audience, Backman will utilize the Cathedral’s new
moveable console which can be rolled in front of the main altar, allowing audience members to watch the organist manipulate the controls of the two pipe organs while playing with both hands and feet.
